Srinagar, Apr 5: The death toll in the tragic accident at the Banihal-Qazigund tunnel has risen to three after a Special Police Officer (SPO), injured in the accident, succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura on Saturday.
The SPO, identified as Showkat Ahmad, a resident of Larkipora Anantnag, was critically injured when a speeding Hector vehicle (JK01AL-0707) lost control and rammed into a road divider, also hitting the officer on duty at the tunnel’s right exit point.
The accident, which took place on the evening of April 2, had already claimed the lives of Zubair Ahmad Wani and Mushtaq Ahmad Dalal, both residents of Shopian.
Three others were injured in the incident, including Irshad Ahmad Mir and Umar Bashir Najar, who were initially treated at Qazigund Hospital and later shifted to GMC Anantnag.
Officials said that SPO Showkat Ahmad was shifted to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment, where he breathed his last after battling for three days. (KNO)
