Srinagar, Apr 6: Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference (JKPC) chief and MLA Handwara, Sajad Gani Lone, has criticized what he termed as “selective action” in mining operations in District Kupwara.
Lone said while local residents face punishment for transporting even a tractor-load of sand or aggregate, large companies like Choudhary Power Projects Pvt. Ltd. (GECPL) are allowed to carry out large-scale mining without checks.
“This is not governance. This is legalized plunder. Locals are harassed while companies enjoy free rein,” he said.
Lone urged the administration to ensure fair treatment and stop what he described as a “license to loot” for corporate entities. (KNS)
