Srinagar, Apr 6: In a historic moment for Jammu and Kashmir’s Floriculture and tourism sectors, Asia’s largest tulip garden, located on the foothills of the Zabarwan range overlooking the Dal Lake, witnessed an unprecedented footfall of 81,452 visitors in a single day, setting a new all-time record in its history. This milestone marks April 6, 2025, as a landmark day, now etched into the garden’s legacy as the highest single-day visitor turnout ever recorded.
Since its opening to the general public on March 26, 2025, the garden has attracted 389,608 visitors over the past 12 days. Notably, today’s footfall even surpasses the renowned Keukenhof Garden in the Netherlands, which, during its peak season, has accommodated 45000 visitors in a single day.
This year, the garden presents a spectacular display of 1.7 million tulips in 74 vibrant varieties, creating a mesmerizing mosaic of color and fragrance that continues to captivate visitors from across the globe.
This monumental achievement marks a new record for the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, recognized by the World Book of Records, London, and showcases its growing appeal as a global floral destination.
The coordinated efforts of the Department of Floriculture, Divisional Administration, District Administration, Traffic Department and other allied Departments for hosting, manging and regulating such a huge tourist footfall paved the way for such a record-breaking success.
The Department of Floriculture took several bold and innovative steps this year to boost outreach and enhance visitor experience. These included the introduction of online ticketing, efficient crowd management strategies, and ticketing facilities at railway stations, Srinagar International Airport, and major hotels. In a major publicity push, the department coordinated with Tourism Directorates of all States and Union Territories of India, launched targeted social media promotions, and collaborated widely to ensure maximum visibility and accessibility for tourists across the country.
Special appreciation is due to the officers, garden supervisors, hardworking gardeners, and casual labourers, whose collective efforts ensured the garden remained at its pristine best.
This record-breaking event stands as a testament to the Department of Gardens, Parks and Floriculture’s capability to manage phenomenal footfall with seamless operations, visitor convenience, and unwavering dedication to the preservation of natural beauty.
As the tulip bloom continues to enchant, today’s record-breaking numbers shine as a proud symbol of excellence, innovation, and teamwork—further establishing the Tulip Garden Srinagar as a crown jewel of Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism landscape. (KNS)
