Pulwama, Apr 10: Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson, Dr Darakshan Andrabi on Thursday praised the newly enacted Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, saying the legislation will prove instrumental in the upliftment and empowerment of Muslims across India by ensuring better governance of Waqf properties.
Speaking to reporters at an event here, Dr Andrabi said that the amendments are a significant reform aimed at transparency, accountability and inclusivity in the functioning of Waqf institutions.
“This step will strengthen Waqf institutions and ensure their assets are used efficiently for the welfare of the community,” she said, adding that misuse of Waqf properties by some people had long undermined the system.
She said that with Presidential assent already granted, the Act is now applicable nationwide, including in Jammu and Kashmir, and must be implemented “in letter and spirit”.
“The law is already in force. If anyone has objections, the courts are open to them. But the Waqf amendment has been passed and implemented,” Dr Andrabi clarified.
