While the government is mulling to ensure women-led development, the immediate need was to ensure safety and security to women at the work and other public places. In a significant move, the Police in Srinagar district have taken a lead to provide a platform to the females where they can seek help and report any form of harassment, bullying, eve-teasing, or unsolicited comments. As a part of a move aimed at ensuring the safety and dignity of women in public spaces, Srinagar Police on Monday appealed to women to report any form of harassment, bullying, eve-teasing, or unsolicited comments. The police also publicized dedicated helpline numbers to encourage swift and accessible grievance redressal. Such a platform for the women was mandatory amidst the rising cases against them. Jammu and Kashmir, known as the land of saints, must ensure a secure and safe atmosphere for the women; thereby the announcement has come a major relief for the women, who feel alienated on the roads and other public places as they can now get a help from the police to ensure that their dignity and safety is preserved everywhere. The launching of such a platform was the need of the hour, but the other districts should not lag behind and must take immediate measures in this regard to ensure that the platform is made available to them at the shortest possible time. The launching of these helpdesks is imperative at this juncture and thus the department should pass the necessary directions in this regard and ensure that the other districts too, take steps and provide a safe and secure environment to the women.
