Pahalgam attack fallout: Hundreds of Kashmiri students return home

Hundreds of students have fled back to their homes, fearing further attacks and harassment in an atmosphere of growing hostility. In Uttarakhand, the situation has been particularly dire, with right-wing groups issuing direct threats to Kashmiri students. Educators and academics have also voiced their concerns, with several urging universities across the country to consider postponing exams for Kashmiri students by two to three weeks. Prominent political leaders have also weighed in on the crisis. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi condemned the attacks, stating that Kashmiri students are “brothers and sisters” who are being unfairly targeted and attacked in various parts of the country. Gandhi emphasized the need for unity and understanding, calling for solidarity with the students affected by the violence.
In response to the growing concerns, Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students. Abdullah has deputed a team of ministers to travel to various states to meet with local authorities and ensure the safety and security of students from the region. He has also called for swift action to be taken against those responsible for any acts of harassment or violence against Kashmiri students, urging the government to intervene and restore normalcy.
