Kulgam, Apr 30: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan Wednesday reviewed the progress of the Jal Shakti Abhiyan – Catch the Rain (JSA-CTR) 2025 campaign in the district, in a meeting held at the Mini Secretariat, here.
The meeting held a detailed discussion on ongoing initiatives, existing challenges, and future strategies for effective water conservation and management.
Emphasizing the importance of rainwater harvesting in ensuring sustainable water resources, DC urged all departments to accelerate efforts under the campaign. He highlighted the need for inter-departmental coordination to fast-track the implementation of JSA-CTR projects.
Officers from the Rural Development, Forest, Agriculture, Irrigation, Jal Shakti and other departments apprised the chair of the status of various water conservation initiatives.
To strengthen community participation, DC directed officials to involve NGOs, Pani Samitis, and other local stakeholders.
He also issued instructions for the construction of at least five rainwater harvesting structures in every Panchayat to enhance rainwater storage and groundwater recharge.
Additionally, DC stressed the importance of regular cleaning and maintenance of water bodies to ensure their long-term sustainability.
The meeting was attended by the Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Kulgam, Assistant Commissioner Panchayats (ACP), Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Executive Engineers, Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Chief Agriculture Officer, Executive Officer Municipal Committee, and other concerned officers.
