Keep Kashmir connected

As the sacred month of Dhul-Hijjah approaches, a wave of spiritual emotion sweeps across Jammu and Kashmir with the departure of the first batch of Hajj pilgrims from the valley. In the first flight, scheduled on Sunday (May 04, 2025), 178 devotees are set to leave from Srinagar International Airport, carrying not just their luggage and documents, but also the hopes, prayers and blessings of an entire community. Hajj — one of the five pillars of Islam — is not merely a religious obligation. It is a profound journey of faith, humility and unity. For the people of Jammu and Kashmir, this pilgrimage holds even greater emotional significance, often undertaken after years of savings, planning and heartfelt anticipation. Notably, this year, the number of intending pilgrims has plummeted by nearly 70 per cent in two years. This annual pilgrimage showcases the meticulous planning and cooperation between various agencies — from the Hajj Committee and UT administration to airport authorities and health services. Ensuring smooth logistics, travel arrangements, vaccination drives, and support systems requires a coordinated effort, which deserves due recognition. The administration’s successful handling of these operations reflects its commitment to facilitating religious freedoms and honoring cultural traditions. As the first group of pilgrims is set to take flight, the entire region sends them off with immense pride and earnest prayers. May their journey be safe, their faith deepened, and their return marked with peace and fulfillment and may their experience inspire greater harmony, compassion and collective spirit within our society.
