Functioning of ministers comes under scanner at CM’s meet with MLAs

Gulmarg, May 28: Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Choudhary Wednesday advocated for the restoration of statehood and called for a single, people-elected government to take charge of the region’s affairs. He also urged national and social media to project a positive image of Kashmir to help revive livelihoods and strengthen public confidence.
Dy CM, while speaking to reporters at Gulmarg, said that “there are currently three types of governments in J&K — one elected by the people, one nominated without election, and the Centre. We believe J&K needs just one: the government chosen by its people,” he said.
He lamented the attempts by “certain elements” to sabotage tourism and livelihoods. “Some want to end our tourism and the employment tied to it. But they will not succeed,” he said, reaffirming that the Omar Abdullah-led government stands with both the people of Jammu & Kashmir and the Union of India.
He urged media , particularly social media users, to spread positivity about the Valley and its peaceful tourist destinations. “This season is an emotional and economic attachment for Kashmiris. When people come here, they understand our culture,” he said.
The Deputy CM also touched upon the state’s lost constitutional position, demanding its reinstatement. “The votes of J&K’s people were cast to strengthen Indian democracy and J&K itself. The statehood should be returned,” he said.
Dy CM also called for decentralized governance and minimal restrictions at tourist sites like Gulmarg and Pahalgam, promising a vibrant and welcoming summer season. (KNO)
