MLA Sopore flaggs-off marathon for drug-free society

600 students participate to raise awareness against drug abuse

Baramulla, Jun 3: In a strong show of unity and resolve, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Zones Dangerpora and Sopore, Tuesday organized a Marathon under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan”.
The marathon was flagged-off by Member Legislative Assembly Sopore, Irshad Rasool Kar at MRF Chowk, Model Town Sopore which concluded at War Automobiles, Saidpora (Bypass).
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 600 students to raise awareness against drug abuse and promote a healthy & addiction-free lifestyle.
Applauding the initiative, MLA said, “Our youth are the torchbearers of a healthy and progressive society. Campaigns like the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan gain true strength when students lead from the front. Today’s run is not just a race but a powerful message of resistance against addiction.”
Students from various government and private educational institutions participated in the awareness event, carrying banners and raising slogans advocating for a drug-free society.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina also present on the occasion, underscored the importance of youth-led awareness campaigns in tackling the drug menace. “When 600 students run with purpose, it’s more than an event — it’s a collective voice demanding change,” he said, assuring continued administrative support for such efforts.
District Youth Services and Sports Officer Baramulla, Zahoor Ahmad Wani, commended the efforts of the organizing zones. “This marathon reflects our ongoing commitment to developing physically and mentally resilient youth. The coordination and dedication shown by Zones Dangerpora and Sopore is truly commendable,” he noted.
The event concluded with a felicitation ceremony for top performers and an oath-taking session where all participants pledged to stay away from drugs and contribute positively to society.
The Department of Youth Services and Sports expressed its gratitude to all participating institutions, officials, and stakeholders for their support and reaffirmed its commitment to organizing more youth-driven initiatives for social change.
