Srinagar, Jun 3: The annual Urs of Shah-e-Hamdan (RA), was observed with religious fervour across the Kashmir Valley on Tuesday, with a large gathering of devotees witnessed at the revered shrine of Khanqah-e-Moula in Srinagar and Khanqah Faiz Panah in Tral alike.
Devotees from different parts of the Valley thronged the shrine of Hazrat Ameer Kabir Mir Syed Ali Hamdani (RA) since morning to offer special prayers and seek blessings in Srinagar and Tral.
Emotional scenes were witnessed as people recited verses and prayed in unison. Special arrangements were made by the administration to accommodate the large number of people visiting the shrine.
Ghulam Qadir, a devotee from Srinagar said, he has been coming here every year. “It gives me peace to offer prayers at this holy place. The spiritual atmosphere cannot be described in words,” he said.
Earlier, night-long Shab Khwani (special prayers) were held on Monday at Khanqah Faiz Panah in Tral, Pulwama and Srinagar where a large number of people gathered to pay their respects.
Local cleric while addressing the gathering, spoke about the life and teachings of Shah-e-Hamdan (RA) and his significant role in spreading Islam and promoting spirituality, education, and social welfare in Kashmir.
“The message of Shah-e-Hamdan (RA) remains relevant even today, compassion, unity, and devotion to Almighty,” said a local resident in Srinagar.
Pertinently, the Urs is observed every year in memory of the revered Sufi saint, who is widely credited for laying the foundation of Islam in Kashmir through peaceful preaching and humanitarian work.
Moreover, the security and traffic arrangements were in place to ensure smooth movement of devotees. (KNO)
