In five years, JK utilizes only 70 per cent of funds for SED: MoE

Srinagar, Jun 4: The Ministry of Education (MoE) that in the past five years Jammu and Kashmir have utilized only 69.90 percent of the total available funds for the School Education Department.
The official document available reads that under Cumulative Budget and Expenditure “An analysis of the budget and expenditure over the last five years indicates that in the financial year 2024 -25, the UT has been able to utilise only while the percentage of budget utilisation against the approved outlay stands at only 55.38 percent.”
MoE in this regard has requested the concerned authorities of Jammu and Kashmir to prioritise the release of the 3rd and 4th installment by ensuring the expenditure of the available funds on time.
“The UT has nor submitted the Annual Report and Audit Report for the financial year 2023-24.The UT was instructed to submit the pending reports to the Department at the earliest and to ensure that such delays do not occur in the future,” MoE said.
It also said that out of the total budget proposed by the UT for the financial year 2025-26, at least 68 percent of the proposal is allocated to activities at the elementary level, 31 percent for the secondary level and only 1 percent for teacher education.
“UT has a balanced distribution of proposals for elementary and secondary head. However, there is a disparity with allocation for teacher education head,” MoE said.
The ministry further said that the chairperson has suggested that efforts should be made to carry out more activities for Secondary Education and Teacher Education. “The chairperson further suggested that an ideal ratio of 65:25:10 be targeted for expenditure in EE, SE and TE.” (KNO)
