Srinagar, Jul 4: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Friday said Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) is improving the income of 13 lakh farmer families.
Speaking at the 6th Convocation of SKUAST-K Manoj Sinha said, “SKUAST-K has made a lot of efforts to make the HADP scheme successful in Kashmir.”
Sinha further said that HADP in Kashmir is improving the income of 13 lakh farmer families.
“Today HADP across India is being seen as a role model in the agricultural industry,” he said.
He further said that Jammu and Kashmir is one of the largest agricultural sectors in India and in the past couple of years, the farmers here have secured fifth rank in agriculture and allied sector ranking.
On the occasion, Sinha while congratulating the graduating students said that the girl students have yet again shined at SKUAST-K. He informed that among the total of 150 gold medallist students at least 115 are female students.
He also lauded SKUAST-K for creating a competent and competitive human resource and shining the farm sector here.
The Lieutenant Governor also extended his felicitations to the female students for their excellent academic performance across the subject and informed that among the total of 445 certificates of merit, 334 were conferred to girls.
He also said that in the 6th convocation at least 2661 degrees were given to the female students out of a total of 5250 degrees of undergraduate, masters, PhD.
The Lieutenant Governor in his address further said, “The agriculture and allied sector across India under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra has rightly turned out to be the backbone towards the economy of India.”
While pitching some of the major achievements in the last five years, Sinha said that the Union Territory has set four important areas for agriculture and allied sectors.
The Lieutenant Governor urged the graduating students to make their valuable contribution to innovation and progressive farming and take the lead in Agri-technology, food technology, and groundbreaking innovation. Your passion and ideas will shape the future of India’s Agriculture sector, he said.
Sinha further said, “I believe that education is the precious asset for the students and I believe that if the education is being pursued in sync with the current time, the global industry will need it all at the appropriate time period.”
On the occasion, Sinha appreciated the SKUAST-K Vice Chancellor and the faculty for making it advanced campus saying, “The new academic initiatives, and the centres of brilliance is taking Jammu and Kashmir nearer in accomplishing its objectives in helping the bio-economy of the region.”
