Srinagar, Jul 10: National Conference (NC) on Thursday sought permission to visit to the martyrs graveyard here on July 13 (Sunday) to pay floral tributes to the martyrs.
In a letter to District Magistrate, Srinagar, NC General Secretary, Ali Muhammad Sagar, has stated that Jammu and Kashmir National Conference is observing Martyrs day on 13th July, 2025 (Sunday) as usual. “The party president Jb. Dr Farooq Abdullah Sahab accompanied by senior functionaries of JKNC will proceed to Mazar-e-Shuhada to pay floral tributes to the martyrs at 08:00am. Necessary security arrangements at Mazar-e-Shuhada be made,” the letter reads.
The letter reads that “further, it is requested to kindly confirm the proposed timing or allot the timing so that there is no confusion whatsoever in this regard and Party will follow the timing as allotted.”
Meanwhile, the party said, “for decades, the Jammu & Kashmir National Conference has solemnly observed Martyrs’ Day on 13th July, honouring the valiant sacrifices made in 1931.”
“However, since 2019, we have repeatedly been denied the right to commemorate this historic day – a day deeply rooted in the collective memory and political conscience of our people. This year, in keeping with our tradition, we have formally written to the District Magistrate, Srinagar, seeking permission to peacefully assemble and pay floral tributes at Mazar-e-Shuhada. We sincerely hope that this time, our democratic and peaceful request will be respected, and that the National Conference will be allowed to mark this day in accordance with tradition and sentiment,” the party said.
