Srinagar, Jul 11: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday asserted that the security of Jammu and Kashmir should be entrusted to the elected government, and the region’s statehood must be restored without any further delay.
During the special interaction with the tour operators from across the country at Kolkata, the Chief Minister said, “We don’t want to remain as UT. We want the responsibility of security to be ours.”
The Chief Minister stated that during the meeting with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee, he discussed the current situation in J&K and the rest of the country.
“After the meeting, Mamta Banerjee made it clear yesterday that she talked about the security control in J&K. Unfortunately, we are presently an UT. Centre, BJP and GoI have promised to restore the statehood. We don’t want any further delay in this pious process. Statehood should be ensured at earliest and the responsibility of security should be given to the elected government. We will take care of it,” he added.
Furthermore, in a reply to a query on Bihar voter list, Omar said that Jammu and Kashmir is the place where elections don’t take place easily. “We have witnessed 2024 elections after the gap of ten years. I am among the persons who want the elections to be held in any way,” he said.
Meanwhile, as per a post on X, Office of Chief Minister, J&K, Omar highlighted the unique tourism experiences Jammu & Kashmir has to offer.
He also invited the tour operators from across the country to collaborate in promoting the region and assured full support from the government.
