Srinagar, Aug 14: Marking Partition Horrors Remembrance Day-2025 in Srinagar, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Thursday recalled the immense suffering, displacement and sacrifices of 1947, saying the day serves as a reminder of the heavy price paid for independence and the importance of passing these memories to future generations.
Speaking to reporters at the programme organised by the Government of J&K’s Department of Culture at Tagore Hall, Dulloo said that on August 14, 1947, India was partitioned and got independence, but the people of the region paid a heavy price.
“Fields were on one side, homes on another, brothers separated from brothers, and countless lives were lost. This day is observed to remind the next generation of those sacrifices and the horrors of partition,” he said.
The Chief Secretary also told reporters that all arrangements for Independence Day celebrations have been completed across Jammu and Kashmir, with main functions scheduled in every district on Friday.
Dulloo further issued a stern warning against those selling rotten meat in the region. “The Chief Minister has already directed strict action and enforcement agencies are on the job. Those involved will not be spared,” he added.
Pertinently, the event, featuring an exhibition of historical photographs, aimed to honour the millions who faced displacement and violence during the partition.
