Srinagar, Aug 16: The heart of Srinagar, Lal Chowk Saturday witnessed vibrant celebrations on the occasion of Janmashtami, as devotees gathered in large numbers to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna with prayers, bhajans and colourful processions.
Amid chants of “Hare Krishna, Hare Rama,” devotees carrying flags and idols of Lord Krishna moved through the city centre, drawing the attention of passersby.
According to reports, the heart of Srinagar—Lal Chowk echoed with chants and hymns, creating a festive atmosphere.
Rajesh Kumar, one of the devotees participating in the procession said that it was heartening to see such celebrations taking place in the centre of Srinagar. “Janmashtami is a reminder of peace, love and devotion. We are happy to celebrate it openly,” he said.
Another devotee, Meena Sharma, said the participation of children in cultural performances and bhajan singing made the event even more joyful. “These celebrations bring our community together and strengthen our faith,” she said.
Similarly, the organisers of the event said the celebrations at Lal Chowk are a way of keeping traditions alive. “For us, it is not just a religious occasion but also a cultural festival that promotes harmony,” said one of the organisers.
Notably, the authorities had made security and traffic arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the celebrations, which concluded peacefully.
