Srinagar, Aug 22: Journalists at the Press Enclave in Srinagar have raised concerns over the growing dog menace, urging the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) to take immediate action.
The apprehension comes after two journalists were reportedly bitten by stray dogs within a span of just two weeks.
One of the affected journalists termed the situation as alarming. “These dogs are aggressive and pose a serious threat to our safety while we are at work. We urge the authorities to act before any serious incident occurs,” he said.
He said the dogs, including puppies and their mother, are often seen outside the Daily Gadiyal office. He recalled being bitten by the same mother dog nearly two weeks ago.
“I had just stepped outside the Daily Gadiyal office when I was bitten. I had to visit the hospital and get an injection,” he added.
When contacted, an SMC official said a team had been dispatched to investigate and relocate the dogs. However, despite repeated follow-ups, no concrete action has been observed on the ground so far.
Journalists said the stray dogs are frequently seen in front of RC-2 Quarter, creating an atmosphere of fear among employees and visitors.
“We hope the SMC acts immediately. This is no longer just a nuisance, but a serious safety hazard,” another journalist said.
