DC Bandipora visits flood vulnerable sites of Sumbal sub-division

Bandipora, Sep 6: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, on Saturday visited Sub-Division Sumbal to review the situation caused by rising water levels in Wullar Lake.
During the visit, the DC assessed the impact of rising waters on habitations and essential infrastructure. She interacted with locals and took firsthand feedback on the situation.
On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that inundation has been witnessed only in a few low-lying villages, which usually face such conditions even during normal times. She said the visit was aimed especially for the Irrigation & Flood Control Department to assess damage to bunds, seepage points and other related works.
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner personally visited these areas to assess the situation. She said that People here are praising the efforts of the Irrigation and Flood Control Department for their timely response and continuous work.
She also reviewed the arrangements made for shifting vulnerable families if needed and directed officials to remain alert and provide timely assistance. The DC stressed that departments including Revenue, Fisheries and I&FC are working in close coordination to respond effectively to any situation.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner visited the Transit Accommodation at Odina, Sumbal to interact with migrant employees residing there. The purpose of the visit was to assess their living conditions and address their issues. On the occasion, the DC reviewed the facilities available at the accommodation to ensure they meet the necessary standards of convenience and safety.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by SDM Sumbal, Murtaza Ahmad Sheikh; Executive Engineer Jal Shakti, Er. Mutayib Bashir; Tehsildar Sumbal and officers from Revenue, I&FC, Fisheries, and other concerned departments.
