Act on soaring prices, shortage of essential commodities

The soaring prices and chronic shortage of essential commodities have pushed common citizens to the brink. What was once an occasional inconvenience has now turned into a persistent crisis that can no longer be brushed aside, thus, it is time the government needs to act and ensure the sufferings of people are lessened. For weeks, consumers have been forced to pay exorbitant rates for basic necessities. The price tags in the markets do not just reflect inflation; they reflect manipulation, hoarding and unchecked profiteering. The excuse of “supply chain disruptions” no longer holds water when the same pattern recurs whenever the National Highway remains closed due to the landslides and shooting stones. What’s lacking is not the supply, it is the will to act. Opening alternate supply routes is not just a suggestion anymore; it is an urgent necessity. If the traditional routes are being exploited by middlemen and black-marketers, then the administration must diversify access and create parallel channels that ensure affordability and availability. Ignoring this need will only deepen public resentment and economic hardship. The departments concerned must step out of their bureaucratic lethargy and take full responsibility. Raids on hoarders, strict price monitoring, and transparent market oversight are not optional, they are essential. Regulatory bodies must not only enforce price caps but also ensure that these are not bypassed through loopholes and weak enforcement. Citizens expect not just statements but swift action. Authorities must make an example out of those who exploit crises for profit, whether they are wholesalers, transporters, or retailers. The time for warnings is over. The time for action is now. If the administration fails to respond with urgency and resolve, it risks not only the trust of the people but the basic economic stability of the region.
