Kupwara, Oct 6: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Shrikant Suse Monday chaired a meeting of the District Level Committee under Narco Coordination (NCORD) to review various measures put in place to curb drug abuse in the district.
Threadbare discussion was held in the meeting on issues related to the agenda. The officers presented detailed reports on the work done as per their respective roles and responsibilities.
The Deputy Commissioner impressed upon all officers to put in extra efforts aimed at eradicating the drug menace in the district, mainly focusing on conducting special awareness camps for vulnerable segments of society such as transport workers, street vendors, and youth.
He directed the Tehsil-level machinery to gear up for the identification of hotspots with immediate destruction of wild bhang and poppy cultivation wherever reported and to initiate legal action against the culprits.
It was informed that all medical shops in the district have installed CCTV cameras, with 95 percent computerized billing systems already in place.
The Assistant Drug Controller was directed to ensure 100 percent mandatory computerized billing as a means to break the supply chain.
Highlighting the role of parents in safeguarding the future of their children, the DC emphasized organizing monthly Parent-Teacher Meetings (PTMs) in all government and private schools to discuss the menace of drug abuse along with other related issues.
He also directed the concerned authorities to ensure that no sale or consumption of tobacco or related substances takes place within 100 meters of any school premises.
It was further impressed upon the participants to work towards the declaration of “Nasha Mukt Panchayat” to encourage healthy competition among panchayats in making Kupwara a drug-free district.
SSP Kupwara, Gulam Jeelani; ADC Kupwara, Gulzar Ahmad; ACR, CMO, CEO, DFO and other concerned officers attended the meeting. SSP Handwara, SDM Lolab and all Tehsildars attended the meeting virtually.
