Srinagar, Oct 11: Minister Javid Ahmad Dar on Saturday said that the Omar Abdullah-led government was making efforts to fully restore the traditional Durbar Move practice in Jammu and Kashmir from this winter.
Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the launch of two centrally sponsored schemes in Baramulla, Dar said, “The government is trying to ensure the complete restoration of the Durbar Move system which has been an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir’s administrative setup for decades.”
He added that the District Development Commissioner (DDC) has been directed to look into any instances of agricultural land being converted for commercial purposes. “DC Sahab is doing good work here. Action will be taken against violations of land use laws,” Dar said.
The minister launched two major centrally sponsored schemes, including the Prime Minister Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PMDDKY), which aims to enhance agricultural productivity in 100 underperforming districts across the country. The scheme focuses on addressing challenges such as low crop yields, limited cropping intensity, and poor access to agricultural credit.
From Jammu and Kashmir, Kishtwar and Baramulla districts have been selected under the scheme. Announced in the Union Budget 2025–26, PMDDKY seeks to converge 36 existing central government schemes from 11 different ministries, creating a unified agricultural support framework to strengthen the rural economy.
Dar said the initiative will provide a significant boost to farmers by integrating resources and ensuring better coordination among departments. (KINS)
