Digital governance must deliver results

Why Pay-As-You-Consume is gaining momentum in 2026?

Observance of Vigilance Awareness Week in Jammu and Kashmir is not merely a symbolic obedience, but a timely reminder of the collective duty to build a transparent, accountable and corruption-free society. This year’s theme, centered on integrity and public participation, underscoring the importance of civic responsibility in rooting out corruption and unethical practices at all levels. While institutions like the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) continue relentless efforts to bring offenders to book, the success of any vigilance mechanism ultimately depends on the active participation of the people. Corruption does not thrive in isolation but feeds off silence, apathy and fear. Therefore, empowering the common citizen with knowledge about their rights, government procedures and grievance redressal systems is pivotal to end such practices in the society. The government’s outreach programs, workshops and awareness campaigns during this week must go beyond formalities. The real challenge lies in making vigilance a year-round movement rather than a one-week ritual. Schools, colleges, panchayats and urban local bodies must be engaged meaningfully, encouraging whistleblowing and promoting ethical behavior from the grassroots up. In J&K, where aspirations for development and good governance are high, corruption is not just a legal or administrative hurdle but a betrayal of public trust. Transparency in public services, digital governance, time-bound delivery mechanisms and protection for whistle-blowers must become pillars of everyday administration. Let Vigilance Awareness Week be a turning point, not just a calendar event but a clarion call to awaken the conscience, foster accountability and build a more just and honest society. The onus is not only on institutions but on every citizen to speak up, stay informed and stand firm against corruption in all its forms.
