No recruitment of teachers in last 2 years: Govt

Srinagar, Oct 30: The government Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that there has been no recruitment of teachers in last two years.
The house was also informed in Kashmir Division, last recruitment process of teachers was completed in the year 2019 for General Line/Science-Math/Urdu. “No recruitment of teachers has been made during the last two years, the reply reads.”
The School Education Department in response to a question by Sham Lal Sharma also said, “The last recruitment of General Teachers for Science, Maths and Urdu in Jammu division was carried out in 2016 in districts Samba, Reasi, Udhampur and Rajouri.”
The house was further informed that 740 Course Resource Coordinators and 227 Subject Specific Coordinators have been engaged on a contractual basis over the last two years.
“Kashmir division has a sanctioned strength of 6,411 Master posts of which 5,436 are in position and 975 remain vacant. For the Teacher cadre, 28,406 posts are sanctioned, with 28,254 in position and 152 vacant,” it reads.
The government also informed the house that in Jammu Division, there were 12,322 schools during 2022–23, of which 1,204 have been clubbed with nearby institutions due to low enrolment or accommodation issues.
“In Kashmir Division, 14 schools are currently non-functional due to zero enrolment, while others were merged to optimize resources,” it reads.
The house was informed that the vacancies are being filled under the promotion quota and rationalization policy, and steps are being taken to address staffing and infrastructure gaps.
