Are we forgetting our parents?

The much-hyped Indian Heaven Premier League (IHPL) in Srinagar, once promoted as a symbol of Kashmir’s sporting resurgence, has ended in chaos and controversy. What began with promise, a tournament meant to showcase local talent alongside international players, now lies in ruins as the organizers have mysteriously vanished, leaving behind unpaid players, stranded staff and shattered dreams. The abrupt collapse of the league has exposed a grim picture of negligence and deceit. Local cricketers who had hoped to gain recognition through this platform now find themselves cheated of their hard-earned money and dignity. International participants, lured by lofty promises of hospitality and fair play, have been left in disbelief at the sheer unprofessionalism. Even ground staff, event managers and others are bearing the brunt of this betrayal. Such incidents not only harm the credibility of Kashmir’s growing sports ecosystem but also tarnish India’s reputation as a responsible host for global sporting events. The authorities must treat this as a case of fraud and exploitation, and ensure a swift investigation and strict legal action against those responsible. The IHPL fiasco is a reminder that transparency, accountability and official oversight are essential before granting permissions for large-scale private events. For a region striving to rebuild its image through peace and youth engagement, this scandal is a serious setback. As the players pack their kits and leave behind unpaid bills and unanswered questions, one thing is clear that justice must not go missing along with the organizers. The game may have stopped midway, but the fight for fairness must now begin in earnest.
