Baramulla, Nov 5: The birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji also known as Gurpurab, the founder of Sikhism, was celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm at Gurudwara Chattipadshahi in Baramulla.
Members of the Sikh community, along with people from other faiths, gathered to pay tribute to the great Guru through prayers and devotional hymns (Kirtan).
The celebrations started early in the morning with Asa Di War Kirtan, followed by Ardas (a collective prayer) and Langar (a community meal open to all). The Gurudwara was beautifully decorated, and the atmosphere was full of peace and spirituality.
President of the Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee, Paramjeet Singh, thanked the district administration for their support in organizing the event. He said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s message is timeless and very important in today’s world.
“Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings are very relevant today,” said Paramjeet Singh. “At a time when the world faces divisions, Guru Ji’s message of kindness, honesty, and unity is a great inspiration. He taught that God is one, everyone is equal, and we must live with love and respect for all.”
Paramjeet Singh also reminded the community to follow Guru Ji’s three main teachings — Naam Japna (remembering God), Kirat Karo (working honestly), and Vand Chhako (sharing with others). He said that if people followed these values, the world would become more peaceful and harmonious.
During the event, some community members also talked about the need for better opportunities and support for the Sikh community in the region, especially in education and employment.
The program ended with a prayer for peace and prosperity. The entire congregation joined in chanting “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh,” creating a spirit of unity and devotion.
