The Srinagar city’s growing traffic congestion, particularly during the morning and evening rush hours, has become an increasingly persistent problem that is wreaking havoc on daily life. The frequent traffic snarls, especially during peak hours, are causing severe delays, making daily commutes an exercise in frustration. What once might have been a short drive now becomes a drawn-out ordeal, wasting precious time for commuters and affecting their productivity. For the residents of Srinagar, this routine mess has become not only a source of stress but also a threat to their well-being. Children and students, who need to reach schools and office-goers, who have to meet tight deadlines, all bear the brunt of this situation. The core issue lies in the lack of adequate infrastructure to handle the increasing number of vehicles. Roads are narrow, traffic signals are often outdated, and poorly planned urban development has further exacerbated the situation. The absence of a reliable and efficient public transportation system only adds to the dependency on private vehicles, increasing congestion. To tackle this growing crisis, immediate steps need to be taken. Expanding road infrastructure, creating dedicated bus lanes, and improving the public transportation network are essential measures that could alleviate the strain. Additionally, better traffic management, including synchronized signals and real-time traffic monitoring, would go a long way in reducing delays. Srinagar deserves better than its current traffic nightmare. If these issues are not addressed soon, the city risks compromising its livability and the quality of life for its residents. Now, is the time for the administration to act decisively and bring much-needed relief to the public.
