Rajouri, Dec 3: At least two persons were killed and three others injured after a private vehicle lost control and smashed into a roadside parapet in Rajouri district during the early hours of Wednesday, triggering an immediate police and emergency response.
The accident occurred near Chingus on the Jammu–Rajouri road, while the vehicle, a Swift car bearing registration number JK12D 7568, was travelling from Jammu side towards Rajouri. Officials said the impact was severe and resulted in fatal injuries to two passengers on the spot, while others were trapped briefly before being evacuated.
The deceased were identified as Naik Singh, 53, a local inhabitant of Waripattan, and Muhammad Yaqoob, 45, a local inhabitant of Saila Surankote. Their bodies were shifted from the crash site following medico-legal formalities by the authorities.
Three occupants sustained injuries and were evacuated to the Government Medical College, Rajouri, by emergency services. Those injured were identified as Muhammad Farooq of Saila Surankote, Muhammad Sageer of Digwar Poonch, who was driving the vehicle, and Muhammad Mushtaq of Kakora Manjakote. Medical officials said the injured were admitted for treatment and kept under observation.
Police said initial assessment indicates loss of control as a possible cause, though mechanical failure and road factors are also being examined. A case has been registered and further investigation is underway. [KNT]
