Awareness on PoSH Act held at Kupwara

Kupwara, Dec 15: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kupwara, under the aegis of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority (JKLSA) and the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), organised an awareness programme on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (PoSH) Act, Dowry Prohibition Laws, and Maintenance Laws at Town Hall, Kupwara.
The programme was attended by Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs), Anganwadi Workers, and ASHA Workers, with the objective of enhancing legal awareness and strengthening the role of grassroots-level functionaries in dissemination of legal information.
During the programme, the resource persons delivered separate, structured, and in-depth presentations, comprehensively addressing the statutory framework, objectives, and practical application of the relevant laws, with a focus on legal rights, duties, and enforcement mechanisms.
Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC), Muzamil Yousuf, elaborated on the scope and implementation of the PoSH Act, emphasizing the legal mandate to ensure a safe and dignified workplace and the mechanisms available for effective grievance redressal.
Deputy Chief LADC, spoke on the legal and social implications of the dowry system, highlighting statutory prohibitions, penal consequences, and the collective responsibility of society to eradicate this social evil.
Assistant LADC, explained the provisions relating to maintenance laws, detailing the rights of women, children, and senior citizens and the procedural remedies available under law.
Panel Lawyer also spoke on the occasion and emphasized the crucial role of Para Legal Volunteers, Anganwadi Workers, and ASHA Workers in identifying vulnerable persons and facilitating their access to legal aid and justice delivery mechanisms.
The programme concluded with an interactive session, reaffirming the commitment of DLSA Kupwara to promoting legal literacy, social justice, and effective access to justice at the grassroots level.
