Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing a massive rise in vehicle registration while the congestion of roads has become equally difficult for the concerned agencies to regulate the traffic on the roads. The enforcement of motor vehicle norms at this juncture can play a key role in tackling the situation and throwing out the non-registered vehicles to ease the burden on the roads. A large number of vehicles are being brought from outside Jammu & Kashmir while it has been observed that most of these vehicles lack the basic and mandatory documents. In such a situation, the government has made it clear that the re-registration of such vehicles are mandatory, and as such, anyone found involved in norm violations will be dealt with strictly as per the law. The decision to act against the norm violators is both timely and positive as the drive against these vehicles would help identify the non-registered and illegally transported vehicles. Thus, the possible seizure of such vehicles would help in decongesting the traffic on the roads, which has become a nightmare for the commuters. Every single step will count and every decision favouring people to decongest the traffic, is a welcome move. Therefore, the government needs to take immediate measures and ensure the drive against outside vehicles continues after giving a deadline to the owners. Once the deadline is over, no laxity should be done in this regard and those involved must face the music.
