Gulmarg, Dec 31: On the eve of New Year celebrations, the world-famous ski resort of Gulmarg witnessed a massive influx of tourists, signalling a strong revival of tourism in the Kashmir Valley.
Director Tourism Kashmir, Syed Qamar Sajad, while touring the resort on Wednesday evening, said the overwhelming presence of visitors reflects their renewed faith in the system, hospitality, and the unmatched natural beauty of Jammu and Kashmir.
With hotels fully booked and tourists thronging the Gulmarg Gondola, the festive spirit was visible across the resort.
Visitors from different parts of the country and abroad were seen enjoying snow activities, scenic views, and New Year celebrations amid tight security and elaborate arrangements.
“This sea of tourists in Gulmarg clearly shows that people have full faith in the system, the hospitality sector, and the beauty of the Kashmir Valley,” Sajad said. “You can see for yourself how tourists are celebrating and enjoying the New Year here. This is very encouraging for all of us.”
The Director said that tourism in the Valley has witnessed a significant revival over the past one month, bringing new life to the sector after facing multiple challenges. He credited coordinated efforts by the administration, tourism department, security agencies, and local stakeholders for restoring confidence among visitors.
“In the last one month, there has been a visible resurgence in tourism across the Valley. There is a new life in tourism, and destinations like Gulmarg are once again vibrant and lively,” he said.
Sajad expressed hope that the New Year would usher in peace, prosperity, and happiness for Jammu and Kashmir as well as the entire country. “We are hopeful that the New Year will bring a lot of joy, positivity, and progress for Jammu and Kashmir and for the nation as a whole,” he added.
Tourists interacting with officials expressed satisfaction over arrangements, hospitality, and safety measures, saying that celebrating New Year in Gulmarg amid fresh snow was a memorable experience.
With the ski season in full swing and tourist arrivals picking up steadily, officials are optimistic that 2026 will further strengthen Jammu and Kashmir’s position as a premier all-season tourist destination.
