Baramulla, Jan 1: A devastating fire incident in the Garkote area of Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday left a residential house destroyed and a child critically injured, triggering swift action from emergency and health authorities.
According to officials, the fire erupted inside the home of Muhammad Din Bhat, son of Muhammad Yousuf Bhat. Within a short span of time, the flames spread rapidly through the structure, resulting in total loss of the house and household belongings. Locals attempted initial rescue efforts but were unable to control the blaze.
Fire and Emergency Services teams rushed to the scene soon after receiving the alert. Despite their efforts, the house had already been completely gutted by the time the fire was brought under control.
During the incident, a child identified as Rehab Bhat, sustained burn injuries. The injured child was immediately evacuated to Sub District Hospital Uri, where doctors provided emergency medical assistance.
Health officials said that due to the critical nature of the injuries, the child was later referred to the Government Medical College Baramulla for specialised treatment and further management. [KNT]
