Srinagar, Jan 2: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday said there will be no general increase in electricity tariffs across the Union Territory during the current financial year 2025–26.
The Chief Minister made the clarification amid apprehensions over a proposed additional charge on electricity consumption during morning and evening hours. He said that for the year 2025–26, electricity tariffs will remain unchanged and there will be no hike under the Time of Day tariff system.
“For 2025–26, there is no general increase in electricity tariffs across J and K and the Time of Day tariff remains unchanged,” the Chief Minister’s Office said in a post on X.
Omar Abdullah said the government continues to prioritise the welfare of the people and is committed to keeping electricity affordable for consumers across the Union Territory, particularly during the winter months when power demand increases.
The clarification comes in the backdrop of a petition filed by the Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited before the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission, seeking an increase in the existing 20 percent surcharge imposed on electricity consumption during peak morning and evening hours.
The Chief Minister’s announcement is expected to provide relief to consumers who were concerned about a possible rise in electricity bills. [KNT]
