Shopian, Jan 20: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta Tuesday chaired a district- level advisory committee review meeting on food safety standards and directed the concerned officers to expedite sampling and regular checking of all food establishments, medical shops and other business units to ensure availability of high-quality and safe food items to the public.
At the outset, Assistant commissioner, Food Safety, Syed Nighat Hassan briefed the Chair about the overall food safety scenario in the district, status of sampling conducted so far and the measures being taken to curb sale of substandard and adulterated items.
Stressing zero tolerance towards adulteration and unhygienic practices, The DC instructed the Food Safety wing to conduct frequent market inspections, collect samples in a time-bound manner and take strict action against violators as per law. He emphasized close coordination among departments to safeguard public health and create awareness among traders about maintaining prescribed standards.
He reiterated that ensuring pure and quality food is a priority of the district administration and asked for submission of progress reports on inspections and sampling carried out across the district.
