Jammu, Feb 11: Minister for Social Welfare Sakeena Itoo said on Wednesday that the cabinet sub-committee’s report on reservation has been sent to the Union Home Ministry and will be made public once a final decision is taken.
Winding up the discussion on grants of the departments under her charge, Sakeena Itoo, stated that the report will be placed in the public domain after the decision is finalized.
“Whatever decision is taken, once the file returns to the government or the Social Welfare Department, it is mandatory for us to put everything in the public domain,” the minister said.
“I want to assure the House as well as the people that once the report comes back, we will make it public,” she added.
She clarified that the report is a confidential document and cannot be made public at this stage.“We cannot discuss it because it is a secret document,” she said.
Itoo further said that the report had been sent by the Lieutenant Governor to the Union Home Ministry.
“The Chief Minister had said in the House that the report was forwarded by the LG to the Union Home Ministry,” she said, adding that the report was first sent to the LG after cabinet approval.
She said that the cabinet sub-committee, comprising three members, interacted with all sections of society.
“We submitted a report after holding consultations with people from Rajouri, Srinagar, Baramulla, Jammu, and Kathua,” she said, adding that the Department of Law raised some queries over the report.
She said a revised report was later submitted and discussed by the cabinet.
The Minister asked the members to refrain from politicising the issue.
“Sajad Sahab belongs to a political family. Our discussions should focus on public concerns, not politics,” she said. (KNO)
