Jammu, Feb 14: Terming the recent initiatives by the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) as transformative for the region, Waqf Chairperson Dr Darakshan Andrabi on Saturday lauded the institution’s efforts in revolutionizing the farming sector through modern techniques and organic practices.
Speaking to reports after visiting an exhibition here, Dr Andrabi highlighted the tangible benefits of the university’s outreach, stating that the impact was visible at the grassroots level.
“Since the time the Vice Chancellor has taken these initiatives, the agriculture, farming and the farmers here, you can see how they are benefiting from it,” she said.
Expressing satisfaction after interacting with farmers and scientists, Dr Andrabi emphasized the shift towards pesticide-free cultivation. “All the stalls that I have seen here, the farmers are happy… The real purpose of the Agricultural University is being fulfilled. Our scientists and students are taking new initiatives without pesticides,” she said.
Waqf Chairperson remarked that the organization of such exhibitions for farmers was reminiscent of agricultural fairs held in countries like England, where farmers are educated on advanced methodologies.
“In this season, for the farmers, doing this kind of show today… I think when you go to England, London, or to foreign countries, this kind of exhibition is organized for the farmers and they are taught this kind of farming,” Dr Andrabi said.
She further congratulating the Vice Chancellor and his team, asserting that the direction taken by SKUAST was a “big step” for the farming community in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNS)
