DM Bandipora reviews anti-drug measures at NCORD meet

Emphasizes vigilant surveillance, coordinated action

Bandipora, Feb 23: District Magistrate (DM) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, Monday chaired a virtual meeting of the District-Level NCORD Committee to review the measures taken to curb drug abuse and related illegal activities in the district.
During the meeting, the DM called for strict and consistent enforcement by all concerned departments and stressed the need for greater coordination to effectively tackle the drug menace.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Ajaz Ahmad Zargar, presented a detailed account of recent initiatives undertaken by the police, including detentions under the PIT NDPS Act, action in identified hotspots, and registration of new cases.
Officials from the Excise Department reported on the eradication of poppy cultivation and wild cannabis, regular naka operations and inspections. The DM directed the department to furnish details of religious sermons delivered as part of awareness efforts and to further strengthen community-based sensitization initiatives.
The Drug Control Department shared updates on inspections carried out, installation of CCTV cameras and computerized billing systems at medical establishments, issuance of notices, suspension of licences, and monitoring of courier services.
The DM directed the Assistant Drug Controller to ensure close coordination with the Police Department, actively participate in Thana Diwas programmes, and conduct thorough inspections with proper sharing of data for effective monitoring. The Deputy Director Prosecution briefed the committee on the status of NDPS cases, including pending trials, acquittals, and bail matters.
The ARTO Bandipora informed the meeting about suspension of driving licences and issuance of show-cause notices. The DM took stock of the action taken against the driving licences of offenders and directed the ARTO and Health Department to treat the matter with seriousness and ensure timely action in all such cases. A representative from the Addiction Treatment Facility Bandipora also shared details regarding registrations and ongoing treatment services.
The DM further directed the Principals of Government Degree Colleges to closely monitor the functioning of CCTV cameras within college premises as well as in peripheral areas to ensure strict vigilance and prevent any drug-related activities. Emphasizing coordinated action and regular review, the DM urged all officers to work proactively and responsibly to make Bandipora free from the menace of drugs.
