Jammu Mar 2: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has initiated demolition proceedings against illegal commercial constructions raised on Custodian land in Village Ranjan of Bhalwal, Jammu, as part of its continued action against unauthorised land use.
Official sources said that at least two shops constructed without requisite permission have been demolished so far, while further action is expected in the coming days.
The action follows a detailed report submitted by Tehsildar Bhalwal Monika Sharma and subsequent directions issued by Sub Divisional Magistrate Jammu North Dr. Deepak Kumar. According to the report, Tarseem Lal of Village Ranjan was found raising commercial structures on Khasra No. 2448, recorded as Custodian land, without obtaining mandatory approvals.
Authorities stated that the land in question had been allotted strictly for agricultural purposes. However, five shops were allegedly being constructed in violation of land use norms and relevant government orders governing change of land use and building regulations.
Acting on the Tehsildar’s report dated February 14, 2026, the SDM Jammu North, through an order dated February 24, 2026, directed initiation of proceedings under Rule 156 of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Rules, 1996, for demolition of the unauthorised structures and submission of a compliance report.
In addition, the SDM has requested the Deputy Commissioner Jammu to initiate cancellation of the allotment of Khasra No. 2448, stating that the land is liable to be escheated to the state under Section 133 C(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Land Revenue Act, 1996.
Officials maintained that the drive against illegal commercial constructions on Custodian and agricultural land will continue, reiterating that violations of land use regulations and encroachments on state assets will invite strict action. [KNT]
