New Delhi, Mar 10: The Government of India on Tuesday said that more than 99 percent of eligible rural habitations in Jammu & Kashmir have been connected with all-weather roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).
Replying to an unstarred question in Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Rural Development Kamlesh Paswan, said that out of 2,140 eligible habitations in Jammu & Kashmir, as many as 2,132 have been provided road connectivity so far.
The government said that the PMGSY programme, launched in 2000, has connected 1,62,802 out of 1,63,288 eligible habitations across the country, achieving around 99.7 percent connectivity.
The Minister further informed that under PMGSY-III, which was launched in 2019 to strengthen rural road networks and link villages to markets, schools and hospitals, a total of 1,752 kilometres of roads have been sanctioned in Jammu & Kashmir, of which 1,563 kilometres have been completed.
In Ladakh, 456 kilometres of roads were sanctioned under PMGSY-III, while 263 kilometres have been completed so far, the government said.
The ministry also said that for the financial year 2026-27, a budget estimate of Rs 19,000 crore has been earmarked for PMGSY to support ongoing works and further strengthen rural road infrastructure across states and Union Territories. (KNO)
