Jammu, Mar 28: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Saturday said it will examine the possibility of reconstituting District Development Boards (DDBs), which were abolished following administrative changes after 2019.
Replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly tabled by MLA Chadoora Ali Mohammad Dar, the government said that earlier District Development Plans were deliberated and approved by District Development Boards in accordance with budget ceilings conveyed by the Planning Department.
It, however, said that post-2019, the allocation of budget and all related matters have been transferred from the Planning Department to the Finance Department.
The government further informed that formal consultations with public representatives were held while formulating sector-wise plans before convening board meetings.
“In pursuance of Government Order No. 410-FD of 2019, all District Development Boards in the erstwhile state were abolished, and new structures, including Block Development Councils (BDCs) and District Planning & Development Boards, were constituted,” it said. “Subsequently, District Development Councils (DDCs) were established following amendments to the J&K Panchayati Raj Act, 1989, replacing the earlier system.”
On the question of revival of DDBs, the government said the matter will be examined to determine whether any amendment is required in the Panchayati Raj Act for reconstituting the District Planning and Development Boards.
The government said the matter of reconstituting the District Planning & Development Boards shall be examined. (KNO)
