Srinagar, Apr 7: Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday claimed to have busted a major interstate module linked to Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba by arresting five persons, including two foreign terrorists, officials said.
A top police official confirmed that among the arrested individuals is a top wanted LeT terrorist Abdullah alias Abu Hureira, who had been evading arrest for the last 16 years.
“Other individuals, who have been arrested include another Pakistani terrorist Usman alias Khubaib and three Srinagar residents – Mohammad Naqeeb Bhat, Adil Rashid Bhat and Ghulam Mohammad Mir alias Mama,” he said.
The operation began on March 31 and Naqeeb Bhat was the first to be arrested that day. His arrest led the police to Adil Rashid and Ghulam Mohammad Mir, he said
The official added that over the last few days, Jammu and Kashmir police in coordination with other states’ police and central agencies carried out searches at 19 locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Haryana. “The raids led to recovery of a large quantity of weapons, including four AK rifles, and incriminating material”.
He said that forged documents with addresses located in other states have also been recovered from Abdullah and Usman. “The use of false identities indicates facilitating of the module’s expansion in other states,” he said, adding that further investigation into the case is still ongoing and more arrests are likely to take place.
