Non-local worker shot dead, another injured in Kulgam

Jammu, Apr 7: Rural road projects in Jammu and Kashmir have been affected by delays, incomplete works, and quality deficiencies, according to findings by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).
The audit reviewed implementation of rural connectivity schemes, including projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), and found that several roads were not completed within prescribed timelines.
It also highlighted instances of substandard construction and lack of quality control, which impacted durability and usability of roads in rural areas.
According to the report, delays in execution reduced the effectiveness of connectivity initiatives aimed at improving access to remote villages.
The audit pointed to shortcomings in planning and monitoring, noting that oversight mechanisms were not robust enough to ensure timely and quality completion of projects.
Despite expenditure on sanctioned works, the intended benefits of improved rural connectivity were not fully realized, the CAG observed.
The findings underscore the need for stronger project management, stricter quality checks, and improved monitoring to enhance infrastructure outcomes in rural Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
