Srinagar, Apr 21: Member of Parliament (MP) Mian Altaf Ahmad on Tuesday said major improvement works on the historic Mughal Road will be undertaken this year.
He said that blacktopping work from Peer Ki Gali to Bufliaz has already been completed, while further upgrades are planned to enhance road connectivity.
Mian Altaf said that he had urged the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to keep the Mughal Road open during winters, drawing comparisons with roads leading to Ladakh that remain operational despite harsh conditions. “There is no justification for keeping Mughal Road closed if other difficult routes can be managed,” he said, adding that the authorities have responded positively.
Regarding the proposed tunnel project, Mian Altaf said it has already been sanctioned and the process, including survey, DPR preparation and tendering, is progressing smoothly. “There are no obstacles at present, and I expect the tendering process to be completed within this year,” he added. (KNO)
