New Delhi, Apr 24: A Delhi court has rejected the interim bail application of Engineer Rashid, the Lok Sabha member from Baramulla, who had sought temporary release to meet his critically ill father, a party leader said on Friday.
Sheikh Ashiq, a senior leader of the Awami Ittehad Party (AIP), said the plea was turned down by the court after being filed earlier this week.
According to the application, Rashid had informed the court that his father was on ventilator support and undergoing treatment in a critical condition. He had sought interim bail on humanitarian grounds to visit him.
The court, however, rejected the request. Detailed reasons for the denial were not immediately available.
Rashid, who represents Baramulla in the Lok Sabha, remains in custody. The development comes amid continued legal proceedings involving the MP. [KNT]
