Srinagar, May 1: Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakeena Itoo on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Peoples Democratic Party, accusing it of raising “immaterial issues” and attempting to divert attention from its past record.
Speaking to reporters, Itoo said the PDP was “issueless” and had resorted to raising what she termed as “irrelevant matters,” including the ongoing debate around Urdu.
“Nobody can touch Urdu or any other language. It is our spirit,” she said.
Referring to the recent Rajya Sabha elections, Itoo alleged that the PDP had supported the Bharatiya Janata Party, adding that the issue was now being used to deflect attention.
“They voted for the BJP in the Rajya Sabha. To hide their failures and wrongdoings, they are raising such issues,” she said.
The minister also referred to the 2016 unrest, accusing the PDP-led government of using force against civilians.
“During their rule, youth were killed, pellets were used on people, and many were blinded and disabled. Around 13 lakh pellets were used during that period,” she said.
Itoo further blamed the PDP for the current political situation in Jammu and Kashmir, including its status as a Union Territory.
“We do not have powers today, and that is because of the PDP,” she said. [KNT]
