Srinagar, Jun 1: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Chowdhary on Monday said the Leader of Opposition (LoP), Sunil Sharma, is “daydreaming” and is issuing statements to remain in the limelight.
The Deputy CM said the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah-led government was elected by the people and they only can remove it.
Speaking to reporters while accompanying CM Omar during the inauguration of two newly constructed blocks at the Circuit House here, Chowdhary, said the present dispensation is not a selected or nominated government. “It has been chosen democratically by the J&K people,” he said.
“BJP and PDP are brothers and sisters. One day they break one window and another day they break another. As far as the government is concerned, Sunil Sharma is dreaming. He is watching beautiful dreams of Mungerilal,” Chowdhary said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said the Omar Abdullah government was formed by people from every section of society, including those living in border areas, mountainous regions, villages and downtown areas.
“People want unemployment to end. They need roads, drains, water and electricity. They have chosen the Omar Abdullah government for addressing the issues that touch their skin ,” he said.
The Deputy CM said the National Conference government received a clear mandate from the J&K people and the opposition cannot shake it.
Chowdhary said: “Mr LoP (Sunil Sharma) says whatever he wants. Now he has the right to say because he is in the opposition. Sunil Sharma wants to stay in the headlines. If he does not give such statements, then you people (media) will not ask questions. He gives a statement and then you start chasing it. Breaking news gets created,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister further alleged that BJP and PDP were working together politically and described both parties as “brothers.”
“That is why I said one day BJP gives a statement and the next day PDP gives another statement. BJP and PDP are both brothers. One day these brothers break one branch and another day they break another branch,” he said.
Chowdhary also said that no National Conference worker or leader abandoned the party during difficult times. “Why will anyone leave now when the party is in power?” he asked.
Praising the Omar Abdullah-led government, Chowdhary said several reforms and developmental initiatives have been undertaken in just one-and-a-half years, which previous governments failed to execute during their tenure.
“The works which did not happen in 11-12 years were done by the Omar Abdullah led government in one-and-a-half years,” he said.
Referring to the inauguration of the newly constructed additional blocks at the Circuit House, Chowdhary questioned why previous governments failed to complete such projects despite remaining in power for years.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that several infrastructure projects, including hospitals, bridges, roads, schools and colleges, which remained incomplete for over a decade, were now being completed by the present government.
“How many hospitals, how many bridges, how many roads, how many schools, how many colleges and hospitals remained incomplete for 11 years, 12 years and even 13 years? We are completing them today and you can see it yourselves,” he said.
Highlighting welfare measures introduced by the present dispensation, Chowdhary referred to the free bus service for women and said the scheme had benefited thousands of women across Jammu and Kashmir. “The free buses that we have given to women, our daughters, our mothers, our sisters are travelling free in buses today. Who did this? Couldn’t Sunil Sharma do it in 11-12 years? Couldn’t BJP do it? Couldn’t PDP do it?” he asked. (KNO)
