CPCO visits Shopian, reviews Census operations

Shopian, Jun 4: Chief Principal Census Officer (CPCO) and Director Census Operations (DCO), Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, Thursday chaired a high-level meeting at Mini Secretariat, Shopian to review the preparations and operations of the ongoing House Listing Operations (HLO), being conducted from June 1 to June 30, 2026.
At the outset, DSEO, Bilqees Zahoor briefed the chair about the topography and preparedness regarding census enumeration process and other training programmes being held in Shopian district.
Principal Census Officer (PCO)/ Deputy Commissioner, Shopian, Shishir Gupta, also briefed the CPCO about final preparedness for ongoing HLO while attending the meeting and held discussions on the ongoing conduct of census operations in the district.
During the meeting, detailed deliberations were held on ensuring comprehensive enumeration of migratory households and streamlining field-level census operations.
Amit Sharma, in his address, highly appreciated the hard work of the field staff and motivated all the enumerators and supervisors to perform their duties with dedication. He emphasized the importance of co-ordination amongst the census functionaries, timely data collection and strict adherence to census guidelines to ensure accuracy and completeness of the enumeration process.
Officers were instructed to extend full support to census functionaries and undertake necessary measures for smooth conduct of the House Listing and Housing Census activities across the district.
The meeting also reviewed preparedness at the field level and addressed various operational issues related to the census exercise.
The CPCO urged people to actively participate in the census exercise to ensure its smooth and timely completion and also co-operate with census enumerators and provide the required information. He reiterated the significance of the Census as a vital national exercise and stressed the need for collective efforts to achieve accurate and reliable population data for informed planning and development.
Arun Kumar, Joint Chief Principal Census Officer, also briefed the meeting regarding the monitoring framework of field operations and emphasized the need for real-time tracking of the data collection process.
The meeting was attended by prominent Census related officers including Additional Deputy Commissioner (District Census Officer), Dr Zakir Hussain Faaz, ACR, Shakoor Ahmed Dar, Charge Officers, Vijay Kumar, Assistant Chief Principal Census Officer, District Coordinator, Naveen Raghav among other concerned officers and officials.
