Pulwama, Jun 4: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom Thursday chaired a meeting of the District Level Telecom Committee (DLTC) at the Administrative Complex here to review the status of telecom infrastructure, mobile network coverage, BharatNet implementation and other connectivity-related issues across the district.
During the meeting, a detailed presentation highlighting the progress achieved under various telecom connectivity initiatives being implemented in the district was presented. Discussions focused on mobile tower saturation, augmentation of signals, phase-wise coverage network status, Right of Way (RoW) issues and the progress of the BharatNet project.
The Deputy Commissioner took a detailed review of the project-wise status of mobile tower installations and the progress of the BSNL 4G Saturation Project across the district. He also reviewed the status of signal augmentation, coverage in underserved and shadow areas, and issues related to pending sites, including power connectivity, land availability and other logistical requirements necessary for their early completion.
Reviewing the progress of BharatNet, Dr. Qayoom stressed the need for expediting the remaining works to ensure seamless broadband connectivity in rural areas. He directed the Assistant Commissioner Panchayat to closely monitor the progress of BharatNet works and facilitate coordination among the concerned departments and executing agencies for their timely completion.
On the occasion, the DC also sought details from the Superintending Engineer, KPDCL, regarding the status of power extension to the constructed towers and directed him to ensure timely power extension to all constructed and planned towers.
Dr. Qayoom further directed all stakeholder departments and telecom service providers to work in close coordination for the timely completion of ongoing projects and resolution of pending issues. He emphasized the importance of strengthening digital connectivity, particularly in remote and underserved areas, to facilitate improved access to communication services, online platforms and digital governance initiatives.
The meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Pulwama; Superintending Engineer KPDCL Circle Pulwama; Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Pulwama; Officers from R&B, PMGSY, Municipal Bodies, Forestry and representatives of various telecom service providers.
