Srinagar, Jun 6: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has filed a review petition before the Supreme Court in connection with the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) issue concerning teachers in the Union Territory.
Education Minister Sakeena Itoo announced the development on Saturday, stating that the government had fulfilled its commitment and formally moved the apex court for review of the matter.
“As committed, the review petition has been filed before the Hon’ble Supreme Court. The Government has consistently pursued this matter and remains fully committed to safeguarding the interests of our teachers,” Itoo said in a statement.
The minister said the government had acted responsibly and proactively throughout the matter and had consistently followed it up through concrete measures.
Earlier, the government had accorded sanction for filing a review petition, following which the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs directed its standing counsel to initiate the necessary legal proceedings.
The filing of the review petition comes amid concerns among affected teachers and ongoing discussions regarding the implications of the TET-related issue in Jammu and Kashmir.
Itoo reiterated that the government remains committed to protecting the interests of teachers and pursuing all available legal avenues in the matter.
The move is expected to be closely watched by the teaching community across Jammu and Kashmir as the matter proceeds before the Supreme Court. [KNT]
