AIIMS Awantipora review triggers political row

Bandipora, Jun 6: Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board Chairperson and BJP leader Darakshan Andrabi on Saturday criticised the National Conference (NC)-led government over its reported plans to stage a protest in Delhi for restoration of statehood, saying public demonstrations cannot substitute effective governance and delivery of services.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a Deen Dayal Upadhyaya workers’ training programme at Athwatoo in Bandipora, Andrabi said the Omar Abdullah-led administration should focus on addressing the concerns of the people rather than engaging in political theatrics.
“Protests have never solved people’s problems, nor will they do so now. The government must understand the difficulties being faced by the public and work sincerely to resolve them,” she said.
Reacting to reports about NC’s proposed march in Delhi seeking restoration of statehood, Andrabi maintained that such moves would not yield results and instead urged the government to concentrate on governance, development and public welfare.
“The people are expecting employment opportunities, better infrastructure and improved public services. Instead of creating political spectacles, the government should fulfil the promises it made to the people,” she said.
The BJP leader alleged that the present administration has failed to effectively address several pressing public issues and is attempting to divert attention from ground realities.
She stressed that governance should be based on accountability, transparency and responsiveness to public needs, adding that the aspirations of the people can only be met through effective administration and tangible development.
Rajya Sabha MP Ghulam Nabi Khatana, BJP District President Bandipora and several senior party leaders and workers were also present during the programme.
Andrabi’s remarks come amid intensifying political debate in Jammu and Kashmir over governance, public welfare and the demand for restoration of statehood. (KNS)
